Details: RORO THE PIG WALKS AROUND IN Rose Pink RORO Collection How sweet! one would like to exclaim. The body is so round, the nose is so clear, and the curled tail is so tiny. A few details are enough for the designer Sebastian Herkner to turn a simple thing into a minimalist pig. Available in three sizes, RORO is a pleasant hand charm, a practical money box or just a beautiful decorative object. And not only that: RORO almost wrote architectural history. Once a domestic pig in the Rosenthal am Rothbühl plant, the architect Walter Gropius designed a stable for the cute creature because of a lost bet. It wasn't built after all, – Sebastian Herkner (*1981) is the shooting star of the German design scene – with award-winning designs that combine traditional craftsmanship with new techniques. After studying product design at HfG Offenbach, he became self-employed in 2006 and designed furniture, lighting and accessories for manufacturers such as Classicon, Moroso, Gubi and Pulpo. Sebastian Herkner also works as an interior and exhibition designer and is art director of the Czech label Verreum. He designed the Collana, Falda and Domo vase series, the Mitis watch collection and the Meta wall hooks for Rosenthal. He lives and works in Offenbach. Because Walter Gropius lost a bet with Philip Rosenthal, he has to build a stable for the cute pig RORO. The architect gets to work and makes a drawing. With a barn in the Bauhaus style and an adjacent meadow where RORO grazes contentedly. Exactly this drawing is the template for the new decor Palazzo RORO. Designed by Ewelina Wisniowska, it wafts across the porcelain surface of TAC, the iconic shape of the Bauhaus founder. The designer plays with the gold rim by skilfully alienating it. The decor, which appears very graphic, gently tapers downwards and its polygonal structure is reminiscent of straw bales and wire mesh fences.
